SACO, ME - Evan Schultz, a ’93 forward on the Junior Pirates Junior B team this season, was recently awarded the East Coast Selects / New England "Player of the Year".
The East Coast Selects (or Selects Hockey as the larger organization is now known) is recognized across North America and Europe as the premiere spring/summer showcase program. To be recognized as a "Player of the Year" by the East Coast Selects/Selects Hockey is a great honor for Evan and the Junior Pirates organization would like to congratulate Evan on his accomplishment.
During 2008, Evan was fortunate enough to skate with and against the most talented hockey players in North America and Europe in 15 different showcase events from late March through August. During this span, he played in showcase and/or elite hockey development events in five countries including the following locations: St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland; Stockholm, Sweden; Montreal, Quebec; Toronto, Ontario; Marlboro, MA; Boston, MA; Haverhill, MA; Hooksett, NH; Salem, NH; Rochester, NY; Storrs, CT; St. Cloud, MN; Warwick, RI; and Burlington, VT. For East Coast Selects teams, Evan skated in 30 games, scored 18 goals, had 31 assists, and 49 points. In 'all' showcase events in the Spring/Summer 2008, he skated in a total of 80 games, and he had 74 goals and 80 assists, 154 points.
Ironically, it was at an East Coast Selects showcase event in Europe with current Junior Pirates forward, Connor Anthoine, that Evan first started talking about joining the Junior Pirates program. He made the jump to the Junior Pirates for increased exposure to D1 college coaches and a higher quality of hockey development.
